New Delhi: In a major development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered the reduction of the number of vehicles in his security convoy by half in the wake of the worsening fuel crisis in the country.
The move comes shortly after Prime Minister Modi appealed to citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, work from home wherever possible, and avoid unnecessary foreign travel, in view of the energy crisis facing the country amid the ongoing Middle East war.
The Prime Minister has also instructed officials to use electric vehicles as much as possible in the security forces. For this, the Prime Minister has directed that instead of purchasing new vehicles, the existing vehicles should be converted to electric vehicles. Following the Prime Minister's instructions, steps have been taken to reduce the number of SPG vehicles in charge of security. The decision has been taken to implement the restrictions without compromising on security.
Following the Prime Minister, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also reduced the number of convoy vehicles. The Rajasthan Chief Minister will also reduce the convoy. The study tour of MLAs in Maharashtra has also been canceled.
Meanwhile, the import duty on gold in the country has been increased to 15 percent. The duty on silver has also been increased to 15 percent. This follows the Prime Minister's instructions. It is reported that an order for two days of work from home may be issued in UP.
