Ireland Bakes in Late-Summer Scorcher as Temperatures Surge Toward 31°C

DUBLIN — Parts of Ireland are sweltering under unseasonably hot conditions today, with national meteorological service Met Éireann recording blistering highs of up to 31°C in eastern and midland counties.

A active Status Yellow high temperature warning remains in strict enforcement across 13 counties—covering all of Leinster alongside County Tipperary. The alert, which spans a multi-day heat spell, highlights daytime maximums comfortably exceeding 27°C coupled with muggy, uncomfortable overnight lows failing to drop below 15°C.

A Tale of Two Climates

While eastern strongholds like Dublin, Wexford, and Wicklow bask in bright sunshine and peak heat, the weather pattern remains sharply divided across the country. The western and northwestern halves of Ireland are facing a much more unstable atmosphere, experiencing heavy downpours, high humidity, and localized thundery showers.

Forecasters note that while the conditions stop short of an official nationwide heatwave, Thursday is tracking to be the zenith of the current warm snap. Coastal areas, particularly along the south and west, have seen intermittent sea mist and fog contrasting against the inland heat.

Health and Safety Advisories Issued

With thousands flocking to beaches, lakes, and rivers to beat the heat, authorities have reiterated urgent water-safety warnings following a surge in public waterway usage.
Public health officials have also issued guidelines regarding heat stress, vulnerable populations, and animal welfare. Additionally, agricultural sectors remain on alert following a localized potato blight advisory issued for southern and Atlantic coastal pockets due to the humid, damp microclimates.

A Refreshing Shift Ahead

The stifling humidity is expected to break overnight as a cooler, fresher Atlantic front rolls across the country. By Friday morning, the weather warning will expire, paving the way for a more typical, temperate mix of cloud cover, sunny spells, and comfortable daytime highs peaking in the low-to-mid twenties.
