Dublin - Notorious underworld boss Daniel Kinahan has been brought to Ireland amid heavy security.
A special Irish Air Corps plane carrying the man deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) landed at Baldonnel Casement Military Airbase in Dublin.
Unprecedented security preparedness
The Irish Defence Forces and the police (An Garda Síochána) have provided unparalleled security at the military base and surrounding areas in anticipation of Kinahan's arrival.
- Aerial surveillance:Garda helicopters have stepped up aerial security surveillance.
- Armed guard:Several armed vehicles of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) were stationed at the entrances of the air force base.
- Special vehicle:The Irish Prison Service is using a newly purchased bulletproof and bombproof van to transport a high-security suspect.
To court proceedings
Kinahan, 49, was flown in from Dubai on a special Irish military plane. He was formally arrested as soon as the plane landed. He has been charged with leading an international criminal group. He is expected to appear at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin and be transferred to the high-security Portlaoise Prison.
