California - The rare bald eagle named 'Jackie', who flew from the vast forests of California into the hearts of nature lovers, is now just a memory.
Jackie passed away at the Ojai Raptor Center after more than three weeks of intensive care and veterinary efforts. The wildlife rehabilitation center confirmed on August 10 that one of the region's most famous and beloved wildlife icons had passed away.
Jackie was a part of the daily lives of thousands of nature lovers around the world through the Friends of Big Bear Valley live streams. But last July, she was found lying on the ground near Big Bear Lake, unable to fly. Although she was thought to have been injured in a confrontation with other eagles, veterinarians discovered that she had other serious health problems that were haunting her body.
Jackie was given 24-hour monitoring and intensive medical care by experts at the wildlife sanctuary. Doctors worked around the clock to save her life and find the real cause of her illness. Wildlife officials and international veterinary experts worked together to do everything possible to bring Jackie back to life.
