NEW DELHI — Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh has flown his final fighter aircraft sortie in the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft. The flight took place at Jodhpur Air Force Station during the multinational exercise Tarang Shakti, the Indian Air Force announced on October 12.
Singh has also played a role in the aircraft’s testing programme. Earlier in his career, when he held the rank of Group Captain, he served as Project Director for Flight Test at the National Flight Test Centre, overseeing Tejas flight testing.
The Tarang Shakti exercise began on September 26 and concluded on October 12. Seven countries — Australia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates and the United States — participated, while 32 other countries sent observers.
The exercise provided an opportunity for participating air forces to conduct joint training, share operational experience and improve coordination. Singh is due to retire on October 31. Published reports have identified Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as his successor.
The latest reports provide additional background on Singh’s role in Tejas testing and his upcoming retirement. They do not indicate that another flight took place after the sortie announced on October 12.
