Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Detained at Delhi Protest

NEW DELHI — Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained by police in Delhi on Wednesday during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The detention came after hours of protests outside Akashvani Bhavan, where Congress MPs and other party leaders were also taken into custody and removed from the site.

Rahul Gandhi was seen trying to get out of the police vehicle after being detained. He attempted to leave through a window but was unsuccessful. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also briefly came out of the vehicle.

The protest followed a disagreement between the Congress and the Election Commission over a meeting sought by opposition leaders. The Election Commission had offered to meet INDIA bloc leaders on October 15, but the Congress rejected the proposal and insisted that the meeting should take place on Wednesday.

Congress leaders said their demand to meet the commission on the same day remained unchanged.

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal said there was no issue with meeting the Election Commission and presenting the party's position. However, he disagreed with the view that the opposition should not meet Gyanesh Kumar.
