NEW DELHI — At least five people were injured after part of a building collapsed in Seemapuri in northeast Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. Two to three people are feared to be trapped under the debris, according to preliminary information from officials. The Delhi Fire Service received a call about the collapse at around 3:30 pm.
Fire service teams rushed to the spot after receiving the alert. Delhi Police, civic officials and civil defence personnel also reached the area and began search and rescue operations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena said some people had been rescued and taken to hospitals.
Officials said two to three people may still be trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams are continuing their search, with local residents also helping to clear debris. Parts of two or three nearby houses were also damaged by the debris, according to officials. The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been established.
The collapse has also affected traffic around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. Delhi Traffic Police has advised people to avoid the area and keep roads clear so ambulances and rescue vehicles can move quickly.
