NAGOYA — India swept the Asian Games hockey titles on Saturday, as both the men’s and women’s teams secured gold and qualified for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The men’s team retained its title with a dominant 5-1 win over Malaysia. Harmanpreet Singh and Shilanand Lakra each scored twice, alongside a penalty stroke from Hardik Singh, to secure India’s fifth men's hockey gold at the Games.
Earlier in the day, the women’s team ended a 44-year title drought by defeating defending champions China 1-0. Lalremsiami Hmarzote scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute, while goalkeeper Savita Punia saved a critical penalty stroke to preserve the lead.
The double triumph brought India's gold medal tally to 21, lifting the nation to fourth place in the overall standings.
