More Covid for blood type A Group; Scientists are investigating the relationship of blood group to the severity of Covid-19 in patients.
In an effort to find possible factors that may contribute to Covid infection, researchers at King's College London have examined more than 3,000 proteins to determine if they have anything to do with the development of severe Covid-19. This is the first time such a large number of proteins have been tested for possible association with Covid-19. This is important: the findings may provide insight into new approaches to treating and preventing serious cases. So far, researchers have identified eight proteins that may be resistant to severe covid-19 and increase the risk of six serious cases.
ABO, one of the proteins that increases the risk of developing severe covid-19, also determines our blood type. So your blood type can determine if you are developing severe forms of the disease. By examining these proteins, the researchers identified possible targets of drugs that could help treat the serious Covid-19.
Scientists at King's College London have used a "purely genetic approach" to investigate a large number of blood proteins, and have established that a handful have been linked to the development of severe Covid. Entering this group of proteins is an important first step in finding valuable goals for developing new therapies.
The ABO enzyme that determines blood type is related to the likelihood of hospitalization and the need for a ventilator. This supports previous findings regarding high blood pressure.
They differentiated between proteins associated with hospitalization and those associated with the need for ventilators. Blood type A is more prevalent in Covid-19 positive patients, suggesting that this blood type should be investigated. In addition, scientists have identified eight proteins that protect against hospitalization or respiratory support / death and six proteins that increase that risk.
