Dublin: A cost of living protest will be held today on September 24 under the leadership of the Cost of Living Coalition parties.

Saturday's cost-of-living march in Dublin will be the biggest protest in the capital since mass water charge rallies in 2014 and 2015, its organizers said. Eddie Conlan said thousands of people were expected to attend the protest, which will be attended by more than 28 organisations, including opposition political parties and trade unions.

Participants will gather in Parnell Square for a pre-Budget 2023 protest around the rising cost of living. The Cost of Living Coalition has announced that it will hold its second protest against inflation on September 24. Protesters will meet in Parnell Square at 14:30 and march through the Garden of Remembrance to protest the rising cost of living before the 2023 Budget is announced.

Budget 2023 will be announced on September 27. The latest reports suggest that a one-time economic package of 3 billion euros may be announced to help families struggling with the inflationary crisis. These will be three credits for electricity bills, fuel allowance, double payment of pension, weekly social security payments and child benefit.

Cost of Living Coalition / Cost of Living Coalition

The Cost of Living Coalition was formed in May 2022 and is made up of students, activists, unions and politicians. They are asking the government to take more proactive steps to help the citizens with rising inflation.

They previously performed in May in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Sligo. Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou MacDonald and People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett attended earlier protests. The Coalition recently staged a protest in Cork. According to reports, 2,000 to 3,000 protesters participated in the demonstration.

The cost of living has been on the rise for the past few months. Electric Ireland has announced that from 1 October average electricity and gas prices will increase by €37.20 and €42.99 respectively. The price hike will affect around 1.1 million electricity consumers.
