Beijing: Rumors are widely circulating in the social media that there has been a military coup in China and that President Xi Jinping is under house arrest. They say the coup happened when Xi went to Samarkand in Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. Some reports also mention that People's Liberation Army General Li Qiaoming has taken office as the new president.

These rumors also come after reports of the cancellation of some flights from the airport in the Chinese capital, Beijing, and the country's military preparations have been stepped up.

Some accounts, including Chinese social media handles, have claimed that Xi Jinping has been removed from his military powers and head of the PLO and is under house arrest.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government's police department sentenced former minister Sun Lijun to life in prison for accepting $91 million in bribes in a corruption case. After this, reports of a military coup are also coming out.
