NCT is mandatory in Ireland for all cars aged 4 years and over. This means that from July 1, 2022, all private tax category vehicles (including 181-registered) registered on or before June 30, 2018 must undergo the test.
Also, all such vehicles must always have a valid NCT disc.
Exemption without NCT Certificate :
Where the applicant is able to produce proof of NCT test appointment if valid NCT disc is not produced due to current delay in NCT,
And an email, letter or text confirming the car's registration number and booking number for the driving test appointment where the NCT test due date is not more than three (3) months away is acceptable proof of the upcoming appointment. NCT test should be done if NCT limit is more than three months.
