Coimbatore: The police arrested 5 people in connection with the explosion in front of the Kotai Iswaran temple near the town hall on Sunday morning.
Muhammad Dhalka, Muhammad Azharuddin, Muhammad Riaz, Firoz Ismail and Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, who are related to Jamesh Mubin, who died in the blast, were arrested. The arrested are natives of GM Nagar and Ukkadam. Police charged UAPA against the arrested. Commissioner V Balakrishnan said that all the accused have been identified.
It is reported that the NIA team will reach Kerala in connection with the investigation of the Coimbatore blast case. The NIA team will seek the information of people related to Jamesha Mubin. The investigation is based on the suspicion that Jamesha met the accused Azharuddin in Viyyur Jail. The agency collected visitor data in the jail. Azharuddin is in jail in connection with the Sri Lanka blasts.
The commissioner also said that the car used for the explosion was overturned 10 times. Muhammad Dhalka, Muhammad Azharuddin, Muhammad Riaz, Firoz Ismail and Muhammad Nawaz Ismail, who are related to Jamesh Mubin, were arrested.
The investigation team will be expanded in the case. The commissioner said that more places will be inspected and more people involved in the case will be investigated. Full of nails were also found from the car where the explosion took place. Jamesha, who has an engineering degree, was questioned by the NIA in connection with a case in 2019.
Jamesha Mubeen was earlier interrogated by the NIA on suspicion of having links with Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of the Easter terror attacks in Sri Lanka. The police have decided to extend the investigation to the terrorist organization Al Umma. The 1998 Coimbatore blasts were planned by Al-Umma.
