Ireland: A new status orange alert has been issued as temperatures drop in Ireland over the next two nights.
Tonight will be bitterly cold and a weather warning has been issued for 19 counties. Today's status orange warning applies to counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Galway, Leitrim and Roscommon.
The warning is until tomorrow afternoon. Gardai have urged road users to exercise "extra caution" for the remainder of the week.

Widespread temperatures are expected to fall below -5 degrees tonight, causing heavy snow and cold, with a Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice Warning in effect from 6pm. Meteorologists say the temperature will drop to -11 degrees in isolated areas. "They will drop very quickly at 4pm before the temperature goes above zero," they added.
Many counties experienced severe cold from this morning. While Castlederg in Northern County Tyrone hit -9.5 degrees this morning, the mercury dropped to -7.5 degrees in Ballyshannon, Donegal at the same time.
Gardaà have urged drivers to slow down and keep a greater distance than usual from the vehicle in front. They reminded road users to follow the speed limit and avoid braking and sudden acceleration. The rest of the country is under a yellow low temperature/ice warning as widespread cold and heavy snow is expected.
