Galway: Three teenagers, 16-year-old John Keenan, 17-year-old Wojcik Panek and 19-year-old Christopher Stokes, drowned in a car crash in County Galway early Saturday morning.

At 2.40am gardaí and emergency services received reports of a car in the water at Menlo Pier in Galway city. Three people were pulled from the water and taken to University Hospital Galway, but all died.

Local residents of Galway said it was a terrible tragedy. Galway's Olympic Boxing Club secretary said members were devastated by the loss of Keenan and Stokes.

“This is a very dark day for us. John was very polite. He won the county championship two weeks ago. He was looking forward to the next tournament. Stokes, whose death was confirmed later on Saturday, was a member of the Olympic Boxing Club.

Information confirms that Panek is from Limerick and was in the area as part of Fass training.
