MUMBAI: Months after the Shraddha Walker murder in Delhi that shook the nation, two more women have been killed in similar fashion. One in Delhi and the other in Maharashtra. All three women were killed by their live-in boyfriends.
Niki Yadav murder case
24-year-old Sahil Gehlot strangled his 23-year-old girlfriend Nikki Yadav. The murder took place when he was about to marry another woman. Sahil, a native of Mithrone village in southwest Delhi, was arrested in connection with the incident.
The incident became known to the outside world when the body was recovered on February 14, four days after the murder. Nikki's body was recovered on Tuesday morning from the refrigerator of the accused's restaurant, which had been locked since the day of the crime. The police said that the accused had hidden from Nikki that he was going to marry another woman. Knowing this, Nikki got into a verbal argument with Sahil and this would have led to his murder. They were in love for the past few years and wanted to marry Nikki Sahil, police said. The murder took place on February 10.
Megha Thorvi murder case
The murder came to light on Monday when the decomposing body of a woman identified as Megha Thorvi was found in a flat in Nalasopara in Maharashtra's Palghar district. Police arrested the accused Hardik Shah with the help of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel from Nagda in Madhya Pradesh while he was fleeing to Haridwar after the murder.
After killing Megha, the body was hidden under the bed. Then the accused was trying to escape by selling the household items in the flat. For this some people came and went in the flat. Meanwhile, a bad smell started emanating from their flat. Suspicious neighbors informed the police. News agency PTI quoted the police as saying that Hardik had sent a message to his wife's sister about the murder and was planning to end his own life.
The accused told the police that on February 11, they had an argument over money which resulted in the murder. The two met three years ago through a dating app. Police officials also said that they got married in August last year after living together for some time.
Hardik, who was unemployed, worked as a call-data-record analyst during the lockdown. Megha used to work as a nurse but later she also quit. Hardik killed Megha by strangling her with a towel.
Shraddha Walker murder
On May 18, 2022, Aftab Poonawala killed his partner Shraddha Walker and dismembered her body. In the 6,629-page charge sheet, Poonawala has detailed how he killed the victim and how he hid the body. The accused has revealed that he was friends with many women, including in Dubai. Police officials said that Shraddha had doubts about his character.
After Shraddha's death, Poonawala became friends with another woman. The charge sheet also states that on the day they reached the house of the accused, Shraddha's dismembered body was moved from the refrigerator to the kitchen cupboard.
