China Pays Tribute to Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh

China’s Vice Foreign Minister, Chen Xiaodong, visited the Indian Embassy in Beijing to mourn the passing of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. During his visit, Vice Minister Chen inscribed a message in the condolence book, expressing his respect and condolences on behalf of the Chinese government. Indian Ambassador to China, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the gesture, acknowledging it as a mark of respect for the late leader.


Dr. Manmohan Singh, widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms, passed away in New Delhi on December 26 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and three daughters.

Beijing Recognizes Manmohan Singh’s Role in Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Chinese government paid tribute to Dr. Singh, highlighting his contributions to fostering India-China relations. Reflecting on his tenure, Beijing noted key agreements that were signed to address the long-standing boundary issue between the two nations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning remarked, “During his tenure as Prime Minister, China and India announced the establishment of a strategic cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity.” She further emphasized the significance of the agreement reached on the political parameters and guiding principles for resolving the India-China boundary question.

Dr. Manmohan Singh is remembered as a pivotal figure in India’s economic transformation and as a statesman who championed dialogue and cooperation. His efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with China, alongside his broader contributions to India’s global standing, continue to resonate across international diplomatic circles.

The homage paid by China underscores the respect Dr. Singh commanded as a leader committed to peace, prosperity, and collaborative international relations.
