In a chilling incident that has shocked Lucknow, a 24-year-old man, Arshad, is accused of murdering his mother and four sisters at a hotel on Wednesday. The family, originally from Agra, had arrived in the Uttar Pradesh capital on December 30 to celebrate the New Year.
According to reports, Arshad allegedly served his family food and alcohol laced with intoxicants on the fateful night. Hours later, he is said to have killed them—some by strangulation, others with a blade. The victims included his mother, Asma, and his sisters, aged 9, 16, 18, and 19.
In a video recorded after the crime, Arshad claimed that he acted to "protect" his family. He accused their neighbours of attempting to seize their property in Agra and even planning to sell his sisters in Hyderabad. "Our neighbours were trying to take over our property and planned to sell my sisters in Hyderabad. I couldn’t let that happen," Arshad reportedly said in the widely circulated video.
Investigation Underway
Police discovered the bodies of the victims in a room at Hotel Sharan Jeet. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Raveena Tyagi confirmed the discovery, saying, “Today, the bodies of five people were found in a room of Hotel Sharan Jeet. The local police reached the spot, and a person named Arshad, around 24 years old, a resident of Agra, was detained.”
During preliminary interrogation, Arshad allegedly confessed to killing his four sisters and mother due to a family dispute. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Headquarters) Babloo Kumar added, “The hotel staff mentioned that the family had arrived on December 30, and both the brother and father were present at the hotel. The matter is being further investigated.”
Forensic Analysis and Ongoing Inquiry
Investigators noted that some of the bodies showed signs of injury, including marks on the wrist and neck. Authorities have stated that a detailed inquiry is underway, with statements from witnesses and post-mortem reports expected to provide further insight into the tragic event. The police are also interviewing hotel staff and will release additional findings as the investigation progresses.
