Storm Eowyn Approaches Ireland: Met Éireann Issues Nationwide Weather Advisory

Storm Eowyn is advancing toward Ireland, prompting Met Éireann to issue a weather advisory and warnings across the entire country. With Dublin expected to face gale-force winds as the weekend approaches, the outlook is concerning. Experts warn this storm could be the precursor to a series of Atlantic weather systems impacting Ireland.

The weather advisory, effective until Saturday, January 25, highlights worsening conditions nationwide. Additionally, a Status Yellow fog warning will come into effect this evening and remain active until 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Potential for Multiple Storms in the Coming Days
Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has indicated the potential for further storms in the following week, owing to the prevailing seasonal patterns. He cautioned that Ireland should prepare for significant rainfall and possibly some hill snow.

“The latest projections for Friday’s storm show variability in its track and intensity, ranging from moderate to severe. Beyond that, there is a risk of further storms on Monday and Wednesday as the Atlantic conveyor belt intensifies. These systems are likely to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and occasional hill snow before transitioning to rain,” O’Reilly explained.

Met Éireann’s Forecast for Dublin

Tonight
Most areas will remain dry with clear skies initially. Fog and mist will develop later in the night. Temperatures will range between 2°C and 4°C in light southerly or variable breezes.

Tuesday
Fog and mist will gradually lift in the morning, giving way to dry and bright conditions with sunny intervals. Highs of 6°C to 7°C are expected in light southwest or variable winds. Colder conditions will develop overnight, bringing scattered showers.

Wednesday
The day will be brighter as fog and mist clear slowly, leading to sunny spells and scattered showers. Temperatures will peak at 5°C to 8°C, with light to moderate northwesterly winds. Overnight, cloud cover will increase, with rain spreading eastward and breezier conditions developing.

Thursday
The morning will see widespread rain, clearing to showers and sunny spells by the afternoon. There is also a possibility of hail. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the west, and temperatures will range from 5°C to 9°C.

Friday
Forecasts suggest a potentially very windy day, with near gale-force southwesterly winds, possibly escalating to gale force in certain areas. Heavy rainfall is anticipated, which may briefly turn to sleet or snow in localized regions. Rain will eventually give way to sunshine and showers. Afternoon temperatures will range between 7°C and 11°C.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments and exercise caution during this period of unsettled conditions.
