Malappuram(Kerala): Police have taken a man into custody in connection with the alleged suicide of a young woman in Elankur, Manjeri. Vishnuja (26), a resident of Pelepuram Kappinthodi, was found dead under suspicious circumstances, leading to the arrest of her husband, Prabin.
Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death following a complaint filed by Vishnuja’s family, who alleged that domestic harassment at her marital home was the cause of her demise.
The incident came to light on January 30 at approximately 5:30 PM, when relatives were informed of her death. Vishnuja was reportedly found hanging from a bedroom window, with visible injuries on her body and blood oozing from both hands, her family claimed. They further alleged that she had previously hinted at enduring psychological abuse at her husband’s home.
According to the complaint, Prabin subjected Vishnuja to mental harassment over issues related to her appearance, lack of employment, and dowry. The police have recorded statements from her family regarding these allegations.
Prabin, a nurse at a medical college hospital, married Vishnuja in May 2023. Vishnuja, who had completed her degree and an HDC course, was preparing for banking examinations at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Vasudevan, a resident of Maniyil Paloli in Pookottumpadam.
On the day of the incident, she had reportedly informed her family of plans to visit her parental home. Following an autopsy at the Medical College Hospital, her final rites were conducted.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities closely examining the circumstances surrounding her death.
