Indians Lead as Top Recipients of Work Permits in Ireland

Indians emerged as the leading recipients of work permits for foreign workers in Ireland, according to a recent report. In 2024, Indian nationals were granted 13,566 work permits, accounting for 35% of the total permits issued.

According to figures released by the Irish Department of Employment, a total of 42,910 work permit applications were received last year. The highest number of permits were issued to professionals in the healthcare and social work sectors, comprising 12,501 permits (31.7%). The information and communication sector and agriculture, forestry, and fishing industries followed as the second and third largest recipients.

Of the total applications, 39,390 permits (91.8%) were approved for foreign workers. Apart from India, the top ten recipient countries included Brazil (4,553), the Philippines (4,049), China (1,962), Pakistan (1,742), South Africa (1,631), the United States (1,119), Nigeria (974), Zimbabwe (971), and Malaysia (662).

On the other hand, Brazil recorded the highest number of rejected applications, accounting for 25% of all refusals, with 618 applications denied. Meanwhile, Bolivia had the highest rejection rate, with 15.79% of its total applications declined.

These statistics highlight the growing demand for skilled foreign workers in Ireland, particularly in key industries such as healthcare and technology, and underscore the increasing participation of Indian professionals in the Irish labor market.
