Myanmar , March 28, 2025 , was struck by two powerful earthquakes on Friday, measuring 7.7 and 6.4 on the Richter scale, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was located nearly 50 kilometers east of Monywa in central Myanmar. The tremors were felt across the region, including parts of Thailand, triggering chaos and fear.

At least 20 people have been reported dead in Mandalay, while five others, including children, lost their lives in Taungoo when a monastery sheltering war refugees collapsed. Numerous individuals sustained injuries, and the numbers are expected to rise as search operations continue.
Mandalay University also suffered significant damage, with reports of fire breaking out in some parts of the campus. Authorities fear casualties within the institution as rescue operations are ongoing.

The tremors were felt as far as Thailand, where an under-construction skyscraper in Bangkok collapsed due to the quake’s intensity. At least three people lost their lives, and 81 others were initially reported missing, according to the Thai deputy prime minister. Dozens of people were also injured as panic-stricken residents rushed to evacuate high-rise buildings across the city.
