For Chanel Tapper, captivating crowds with tongue tricks is more than a party gimmick — it’s a claim to global fame. The California native holds the Guinness World Records title for the longest tongue on a living woman, measuring an astonishing 3.8 inches (9.75 cm).
Tapper’s uniquely lengthy tongue enables her to perform feats that most can only imagine. She can remove Jenga blocks from a tower with ease, flip plastic cups, touch the tip of her nose and the bottom of her chin, and even lift a spoon by curling her tongue around it.
Yet for Tapper, the most gratifying moment remains the reaction from stunned onlookers.
“Honestly, the best reaction I could ever get when someone sees my tongue is screaming,” Tapper, 34, said in a recent interview with Guinness World Records. “People yell or scream in shock, or horror sometimes, [and] that’s probably my favorite because it’s funny to me because it’s a dramatic response.”
Her comments come nearly two decades after she first became aware of her unusual gift. Tapper recalls being around 11 years old when she began teasing friends and classmates by sticking out her tongue — often eliciting astonished remarks about its extraordinary length.
A few years later, Tapper gained early viral fame online when a video of her tongue sparked fascination among YouTube users. The buzz caught the attention of Guinness World Records, who invited her to an official measurement event in Los Angeles in 2010. There, she narrowly surpassed two other finalists to clinch the record, her tongue measuring roughly 1.9 cm longer than the average female tongue — and about 1.2 cm beyond that of the average male.
Tapper’s record still stands as of her March 31 interview with Guinness.
Despite some internet comparisons to Marvel’s long-tongued villain Venom, Tapper embraces her distinction with good humor and pride.
“I like little fun, silly things like that,” she said.
Her title has brought more than just notoriety. It has also opened doors to international experiences — including a fashion shoot in Milan for Italian brand Diesel’s “Welcome Successful Living” campaign, where she posed with her tongue painted in vibrant blue and green hues. The campaign also featured several other Guinness record holders.
“It’s fun – I get to see the parts of the world I’ve never seen before,” Tapper said.
Whether dazzling audiences with her tongue tricks or jet-setting across continents, Chanel Tapper continues to turn heads — and tongues — around the world.
