MJ Akbar Labels Pakistan a "Snake with a Forked Tongue" Amid Post-Operation Sindoor Diplomacy

Former Union Minister MJ Akbar, currently part of a multi-party delegation to Denmark led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, has made strong remarks against Pakistan, comparing the country to a “snake” and asserting that it engages in dialogue “with a poisoned and forked tongue.”

Speaking in reference to recent calls from Islamabad for bilateral talks following India’s Operation Sindoor—a precision military campaign launched on May 10 that reportedly neutralized 11 Pakistani airbases—Akbar dismissed the outreach as disingenuous and strategically deceptive.

“Even well-meaning friends ask, ‘Why not talk to Pakistan?’ But which face of Pakistan should we talk to? It’s a government with a double face. It speaks with a forked and poisoned tongue. And who suffers when the tongue is poisoned? A snake is never harmed by its own venom,” Akbar remarked.

He went on to state that India remains open to dialogue on meaningful issues but condemned what he described as Islamabad’s use of peace overtures as a smokescreen for rearming and preparing for future terrorist activities. “The talks are merely a bluff. They serve no purpose except to buy time for the next attack,” he added.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive leadership during Operation Sindoor, Akbar credited him for exposing Pakistan’s long-standing duplicity. “We now have a leader who has called out Pakistan’s bluff. No one has done more to try and bring a nation plagued by a genetic disorder of extremism to its senses,” he stated.

The delegation includes representatives from multiple political parties, reflecting a united front in India’s post-Operation Sindoor diplomatic outreach. Alongside MJ Akbar and Ravi Shankar Prasad, the team includes BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari and Samik Bhattacharya, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, as well as Ambassador Pankaj Saran.

The initiative is part of the Central government’s broader diplomatic campaign following the terror attack in Pahalgam, which prompted India’s military response targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)
