NEW DELHI — The Election Commission of India has issued a fresh work allocation order clarifying the supervisory arrangements for its Information Technology division.
Under the revised arrangement, Director General (IT) Seema Khanna will report through a senior election official rather than directly to the Commission. The latest order restores an additional layer of administrative oversight within the department.
The issue arose after a July 28 order proposed changes to the reporting structure following the transfer of Deputy Election Commissioner Sanjay Kumar. Two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, had raised objections to the change, and the order was subsequently kept on hold.
The Commission has clarified that the proposed change was never implemented and that oversight of the IT division by a Deputy Election Commissioner continued throughout the period.
The latest order follows an internal review of responsibilities and reporting arrangements. The clarification is intended to establish a clear administrative structure for the Commission's technology operations.
