Divya Gautam, Sister of Late Bollywood Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, to Contest Bihar Elections

Patna, Bihar: As seat-sharing arrangements for the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections gradually take shape, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced its allocations, while other alliances have started revealing their candidates under mounting political pressure. However, the official seat-sharing announcement from several parties is still awaited.

Amid this backdrop, a high-profile candidate has emerged for widespread attention: Divya Gautam, sister of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, will contest from the Digh Assembly constituency. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) has officially fielded her from this seat.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has declared candidates for five constituencies, but the seat-sharing formula within the party remains officially unconfirmed.

Digh Constituency Dynamics

Digh, currently held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is expected to witness a closely fought contest between the NDA and the opposition. In the 2020 Assembly elections, BJP candidate Sanjeev Chaurasiya secured victory with 97,044 votes, while CPI-ML’s Shashi Yadav finished second with 50,971 votes.

Divya Gautam is set to submit her nomination papers on October 15, marking her electoral debut in Bihar politics. Her candidature adds a notable dimension to the contest, combining public interest in her family ties with her own credentials and local engagement.

About Divya Gautam

A former student of Patna Women’s College, Divya Gautam holds a master’s degree in mass communication from Patna University. She previously worked as an assistant professor at the same institution before clearing the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam on her first attempt, securing a position as a Supply Inspector. She later resigned from her government role to engage in social work and community initiatives.

Divya has been active in student politics, serving as a member of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and contesting the Patna University Students’ Union (PUSU) presidential election in 2012, where she finished second. Her engagement in civic and social issues in Patna, coupled with her familial connections to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has attracted significant public attention.

Her family resides in the Rajeev Nagar area of Patna, falling under the same police jurisdiction as the Digh Assembly constituency, further linking her candidacy to local dynamics and voter familiarity.
