New Delhi: India’s MapMyIndia has emerged as a noteworthy domestic competitor in the mapping space, drawing attention for its potential to challenge global players like Google Maps. The spotlight intensified this week after Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) praising MapMyIndia’s Mappls platform, prompting a 10.7% surge in the stock of its parent company, CE Info Systems.
In the video, Vaishnaw highlighted the app’s unique features, noting that it provides three-dimensional views of flyovers and underpasses, as well as guidance for navigating multi-level buildings and complex junctions. He emphasized that the Indian Railways will adopt Mappls and that an official agreement between Railways and MapMyIndia would soon be signed to leverage all its advanced functionalities.
“MapMyIndia’s local maps offer excellent features. People should try it out. It will be used across the Railways to enhance navigation and operational efficiency,” Vaishnaw said.
The video also shows the minister using MapMyIndia on Apple CarPlay, demonstrating real-time navigation comparable to Google Maps. Vaishnaw also noted that MapMyIndia is a fully Indian company, with CE Info Systems as its parent organization, reinforcing the significance of domestic technology adoption.
Integration With Other Platforms
There has been growing interest in integrating MapMyIndia with Aarattai, India’s homegrown WhatsApp competitor. Many X users suggested the integration, and Rohan Verma, Director at MapMyIndia, confirmed that developers can implement this using Mappls APIs and SDKs, sharing detailed instructions via an online post.

Mappls, built specifically for India by CE Info Systems, leverages location-based IoT platforms to offer highly localized mapping services. Key features include:
- Detailed Address Mapping: Identify precise addresses at street, locality, and village levels using Mappls Pin, inspired by Google Maps Pin, enabling easy sharing of exact locations.
- Multi-Language Support: Available in Hindi and other Indian languages.
- Safety Alerts: Provides real-time warnings for road safety, weather conditions, and air quality.
- Offline Maps: Navigation is available without internet connectivity after downloading offline maps in advance.
- Data Privacy: All user data is stored exclusively in India, ensuring compliance with local privacy regulations.
With government support and a growing domestic user base, MapMyIndia’s Mappls platform is positioning itself as a credible alternative to international mapping services, emphasizing localization, safety, and privacy.
