Tipperary, Oct. 12 — A man in his 40s is in a critical condition in hospital after what Gardaí have described as a “serious assault” in Knockane, County Tipperary, on Saturday evening.
According to reports, the man was doused in petrol and set on fire in a shocking incident that has left the local community reeling. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. on October 11, and the victim was treated on-site before being transported by ambulance to Cork University Hospital with severe injuries.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed the details, stating:
“Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, 11th October 2025, Gardaí responded to reports of a serious assault at Knockane, Co. Tipperary. A male in his 40s was treated at the scene and subsequently transported by ambulance to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.”
Two men, both in their 20s, were arrested a short time later in connection with the incident. They are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in County Tipperary.
“Investigations are ongoing,” the Garda spokesperson added.
The area remains cordoned off as forensic teams continue to examine the scene. Authorities have yet to release further details on the motive behind the assault.
