Bengaluru: In a shocking incident reported from Karnataka, police have arrested a man accused of murdering his close friend in order to obtain money, which he allegedly used to purchase gifts for his estranged second wife.
According to a report by NDTV, the accused, identified as Shafi, a resident of Birur in Chikkamagaluru district, is suspected of killing his friend Puttaraju, a professional welder, for financial gain.
Police officials said the crime occurred on February 19, when Shafi allegedly lured Puttaraju under the pretext of participating in a gold auction reportedly organised by a finance company. Trusting his friend’s invitation, Puttaraju left his home at around 11 a.m., carrying approximately ₹2.5 lakh in cash.
Authorities believe the accused targeted his friend after learning that he would be carrying a substantial amount of money. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the murder and the subsequent use of the stolen funds.
