Uttar Pradesh: Man Accused of Killing Wife in Saharanpur, Police Launch Manhunt

Uttar Pradesh: A disturbing incident has emerged from Saharanpur in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, where a man has been accused of murdering his wife and subsequently fleeing the scene. Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to locate the suspect.

The incident occurred in the Mohalla Mahal area under the jurisdiction of the Rampur Maniharan Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Shabana, aged 40.

According to allegations made by the victim’s family, her husband Salim allegedly drugged her and then suffocated her using a pillow. After the incident, the accused reportedly fled and remains absconding.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident, took custody of the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

History of Domestic Disputes

Family members stated that Shabana had married Salim, a resident of Kailashpur under the Gagalheri Police Station limits, approximately 20 years ago. They alleged that Salim’s behaviour had been aggressive since the early years of their marriage and that he frequently subjected Shabana to physical abuse.

Despite several attempts by community elders to mediate through local panchayats, the disputes reportedly continued. Concerned for their daughter’s safety, Shabana’s family eventually arranged for her to live in a separate house in Rampur Maniharan, but tensions between the couple allegedly persisted.

Family Claims Accused Confessed Over Phone

The victim’s father, Inam, claimed that around 12:30 a.m., a relative received a call from Salim in which he allegedly admitted to killing his wife and asked that the family be informed.

Upon receiving the information, family members rushed to the residence and found Shabana dead inside the house, while the accused had already fled. The doors were reportedly left open.

Police Investigation Underway

Investigators have collected forensic evidence from the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the suspect’s movements.

Speaking on the matter, Vyom Bindal confirmed that the body of a woman had been discovered under suspicious circumstances late at night within the Rampur Maniharan police jurisdiction.

He stated that police and forensic teams reached the scene promptly and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Authorities are currently investigating the allegations made by the family, and further clarity regarding the cause of death is expected once the autopsy report is received.

Police said appropriate legal action is being taken based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused.
