VARKALA: Local police have arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Ajmal, a native of Melvettur, in connection with the sexual assault of a school student.
According to officials, the incident occurred while the victim was returning home after appearing for her examinations. The assailant reportedly intercepted the student in a secluded area. Police investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by the accused’s resentment after the victim rejected his romantic overtures.
The complaint filed by the victim’s family alleges that the accused forcibly abducted the girl and subjected her to physical assault inside a building. Following a formal complaint and a subsequent intelligence-led investigation, authorities apprehended the suspect.
The accused was produced before a local court and has been remanded in judicial custody. Police stated that they are currently investigating whether the individual has been involved in similar criminal activities in the past.
