NEW DELHI: In a thrilling conclusion to the T20 World Cup semifinal, India secured their place in the final after a hard-fought victory against England. Following the high-stakes match, Indian vice-captain Axar Patel revealed that he was fully prepared to shoulder the responsibility of bowling the decisive final over had he been called upon.
With England requiring 30 runs from the final six deliveries to claim victory, captain Suryakumar Yadav entrusted Shivam Dube with the ball. Dube successfully defended the target, restricting England and securing a seven-run win for India.
Reflecting on the tense finish, Patel noted that he remained mentally prepared while fielding at long-off. Despite the high-scoring nature of the match, the spinner expressed confidence in his ability to hold his nerve under pressure.
“I was prepared. I was standing at long-off, mentally ready, and had been practicing my bowling,” Patel stated. With a touch of humor, he added, “Thirty runs is a substantial cushion; I was confident I wouldn’t concede five sixes.”
