Nine people were taken to hospital after a serious car crash on the M50

Dublin Nine people were taken to hospital after a serious car crash on the M50 motorway early Sunday morning, with one child remaining in a critical condition.

Emergency services and Gardaí were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the M50 southbound near Junction 12 at Firhouse at around 5:30am. Investigators confirmed that a car carrying eight boys was travelling in the wrong direction and collided head-on with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
Eight youths in the first vehicle were also injured and were admitted to various local hospitals. One of the children is in critical condition, according to medical staff. The driver of the second car, a man in his 20s, was also seriously injured.
The M50 southbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12 was closed for several hours following the accident to allow Garda forensics to examine the scene. Tallaght Garda Station has launched an investigation to gather information from drivers who may have travelled the route between 5:00am and 5:30am, particularly those with dashcam footage.
