ODESA — Russian forces launched a massive, coordinated overnight aerial bombardment across Ukraine, firing approximately 219 missiles and drones.
The wave of attacks heavily targeted the critical Black Sea port city of Odesa, crippling energy infrastructure and drawing fierce international condemnation.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the nationwide assault involved 202 Shahed kamikaze drones alongside 17 ballistic, anti-ship, and anti-radar missiles. While Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted 174 drones and 5 cruise missiles, the sheer volume of the barrage caused widespread destruction across multiple regions.
Odesa Port and Infrastructure Crippled
In Odesa, the strikes directly hit historic city center districts and vital seaport infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sharply condemned the operation, stating that by targeting the country's primary agricultural export artery, Russia is effectively "at war with the world's food security".
The bombardment severely damaged regional energy facilities and electrical substations. The resulting grid damage triggered emergency blackouts, cut off municipal water supplies, and forced the complete suspension of electric public transportation across the city.
Local officials confirmed that at least 14 civilians sustained shrapnel wounds and required hospitalization after high-rise residential buildings and private vehicles caught fire.
Deadly 'Double-Tap' in Kharkiv
Beyond the southern coast, Russian forces executed a lethal "double-tap" strike in the northeastern city of Kharkiv. Missiles hit a multi-story residential building, followed by a secondary strike shortly after emergency responders arrived at the scene. The Kharkiv attack killed three civilians and left 37 others injured.
In total, overnight bombardments struck nine Ukrainian regions, causing multiple civilian casualties nationwide.
Retaliation in Belgorod
Across the border, Russian regional officials claimed that Ukrainian forces launched retaliatory drone strikes targeting the Belgorod border sector. According to local Russian authorities, those strikes resulted in the deaths of five people.
As rescue operations continue through the rubble in Odesa and Kharkiv, utility crews are working under emergency conditions to restore power and water to hundreds of thousands of displaced residents.
