MUMBAI — In a major international drug bust, the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have seized more than $360 million (approx. 3,000 crore rupees) worth of illicit narcotics in the Arabian Sea, west of the Lakshadweep islands.
The high-seas operation, executed on the 25th of the month, targeted a suspicious Iranian vessel operating in international waters. Security forces recovered approximately 526 kilograms of high-grade heroin and methamphetamine. Five Pakistani nationals aboard the boat were taken into custody.
According to officials, the operation was launched following a tip-off, prompting coordinated aerial and maritime surveillance. Authorities intercepted and boarded the vessel after tracking its suspicious movements.
Visuals of the dramatic interception have been released by security agencies. The seized boat, along with the contraband and the suspects, was brought to Mumbai for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
