UNITED NATIONS — Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a fierce rebuke to Pakistan during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, branding the neighboring country a "serial practitioner of terrorism" and firmly defending India's sovereign right to protect its borders.
The address served as a direct counter to statements made a day prior by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who used the global platform to raise the Kashmir issue and condemn India's recent decision to place the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. Without naming the Pakistani premier directly, Jaishankar dismissed attempts to normalize cross-border violence, declaring that friendship and terror cannot coexist.
Shifting beyond regional friction, Jaishankar also advocated for urgent institutional reforms within multilateral bodies to better reflect contemporary global realities. He highlighted India's expanding role as a humanitarian first responder across the Global South and concluded his address by emphasizing that sustainable peace relies on decisive action against terrorism rather than diplomatic appeasement.
