DUBAI — In a major leap forward for urban transportation, Dubai has officially inaugurated the 'Dubai Mobility Labs' at Dubai Silicon Oasis, marking a significant milestone in the region's adoption of autonomous vehicle technologies.
Established through a strategic partnership between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), the state-of-the-art testing facility is designed to trial driverless vehicles and next-generation mobility solutions under real-world conditions. The center will test autonomous systems across 248 distinct traffic scenarios, ranging from public roadways stretching from Silicon Oasis to Al Qudra to specialized controlled zones.
The launch directly supports Dubai’s ambitious strategy to transform 25% of all transportation trips in the city into autonomous journeys by 2030. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, the facility will provide global tech companies, engineers, and industry experts with a world-class environment to develop and validate cutting-edge transit solutions.
The lab features advanced infrastructure, including light-industrial units and high-capacity electric vehicle charging stations to support testing operations. Prominent global autonomy leaders—including WeRide, Pony.ai, and Tesla—have already completed initial trials at the site. Furthermore, the RTA has appointed the international testing agency DEKRA to oversee daily operations and safety protocols during the facility's initial three-year phase.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, emphasized that the initiative will further solidify Dubai's status as a premier global hub for future industries and foreign investment, playing a vital role in achieving the objectives outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
