Severe weather alerts have been issued nationwide as Storm Boelo tracks near the country, threatening damaging winds, torrential downpours, coastal surges, and localized flooding throughout the weekend.
The national forecaster has upgraded several alerts to Status Orange, warning residents in the worst-affected areas to prepare for potential property damage, power outages, and dangerous travel conditions.
Status Orange Alerts
- Rain Warning (Galway and Kerry): Valid from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday. Intense and persistent rainfall is expected to trigger significant surface water and river flooding, creating hazardous driving conditions and disruptions.

Gale-force westerly winds packing severe, damaging gusts are forecast to hammer coastal and exposed areas, heightening the risk of fallen trees, structural damage, and coastal wave overtopping.

Widespread Status Yellow alerts will also be in effect across major parts of the country:

Travel & Safety Advice
Emergency services and local authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution. Road users are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys in areas subject to Status Orange warnings, watch for fallen debris, and never attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways. Coastal visitors are reminded to stay well clear of exposed piers, seawalls, and cliff paths due to large breaking swells and dangerous wave action.
