MUMBAI — Tata Motors has strengthened its position in the global automotive industry after acquiring an 89.42 per cent stake in Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco Group in a deal worth approximately ₹36,000 crore. The acquisition brings the two companies together to form the world’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle group by sales in the segment above six tonnes.
The companies formally began operations as a combined global commercial mobility enterprise on November 3. The new group will have a presence in more than 130 countries, with combined annual revenues of approximately ₹2.28 lakh crore and annual sales of around 590,000 vehicles.
The combined enterprise operates 27 manufacturing facilities and 25 research and development centres, supported by more than 73,000 employees across six continents. Its operations will span major markets in Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The partnership brings together Tata Motors’ strong presence in India and emerging markets with Iveco’s established position in Europe and Latin America. Their combined capabilities in commercial vehicles, buses, powertrains and advanced mobility technologies are expected to strengthen product development and expand access to international markets.
Iveco will retain its headquarters in Turin, Italy, while both companies will maintain their distinct brands, teams and industrial identities. The integration is expected to create new opportunities for growth, technological innovation and cleaner transport solutions, strengthening Tata Motors’ global presence in the commercial vehicle industry.
