JAIPUR — Indian Railways has operated around 18,000 special trains across the country to manage the increased passenger traffic during the festive season, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said. The additional services were arranged for major festivals, including Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath.
The minister also outlined improvements at some of the country’s busiest railway stations, including New Delhi, Anand Vihar and Udhna. Dedicated holding areas at New Delhi and Udhna can each accommodate around 20,000 passengers. Additional toilets, improved ventilation and relocated ticket counters have also been provided to make passenger movement more organised.
Vaishnaw said redevelopment work was under way at 1,300 railway stations across the country, with around 400 already completed. The programme aims to improve passenger capacity and station facilities while incorporating local architectural features. These measures form part of the broader effort to strengthen railway infrastructure and improve travel facilities during periods of heavy demand.
