Newdelhi: Most people in the country have an Aadhaar card today. UIDAI has informed that Aadhaar card which is more than 10 years old should be updated. Updates can be done online and at Aadhaar centers, UIDAI said in a statement. However, UIDAI has not clarified whether this renewal is mandatory.
Just like identity documents, Aadhaar should be renewed every ten years. Personal information, phone number, address and photo should be updated every ten years. This renewal is similar to taking a new Aadhaar. Renewals can be done by an individual by visiting the "Akshaya Kendras" in person or online. Aadhaar card should be updated every 10 years.

Aadhaar has been used as a document to identify people for the past ten years. Aadhaar is also often made mandatory for availing government benefits. The circular states that all central ministries and state governments have been directed to tighten Aadhaar rules to prevent availing of government subsidies and benefits without Aadhaar number. In a circular issued by the UIDAI in August, it was announced that those who do not have an Aadhaar number or an enrollment slip will not be able to get government subsidies and benefits.
