KERALA: "White color has been made mandatory for tourist buses in Kerala state" -Minister Antony Raju

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister Antony Raju said that white color has been made mandatory for tourist buses from this week. The government has decided to tighten the earlier order mandating white color for tourist buses. GPS Certificate of fitness of unfitted vehicles will be cancelled. The vehicle will be allowed to run only if the fault is rectified and the vehicle is produced.

Similarly, the government has also decided to file a case against those who tamper with speed locks in buses. Till now only fine was charged. Minister Antony Raju said that a criminal case would be filed against the technicians and firms who help tamper with the speed lock by altering the electronic control unit. At present only fine was charged to the vehicle owner. No more delay can be allowed. Buses violating the law will be seized, he said.

The government has stepped up action in the context of finding widespread violations of the law in buses used for tourism. The government has taken strict measures in the wake of the High Court verdict.

Inspection and monitoring will be ensured to prevent irregularities. Action will be taken against officials who assist tourist buses. Deputy Transport Commissioners will inspect 15 buses in a week. There will also be super checking by the Transport Commissioner.

Checks will be conducted in conjunction with Excise to prevent the use of alcohol by drivers. Drivers caught will have their licenses suspended. It will be reinstated only after completion of training at the Driver Training Institute. The minister also said that a special tax will be levied from November 1 on tourist permit vehicles entering the state on All India permit. The decision came  after last week tourist buss accident and High Court verdict.
