Dublin: Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys plans to overhaul the pay-linked benefits system. The plan includes a limit on payment schedule time, as a maximum of 450 euros per week will be paid for up to six months. Many people may be entitled to a social welfare payment of up to €450 a week.
The purpose of this new social welfare payment is to help people who suddenly lose their job and apply for other welfare benefits. The change means that ex-workers who have lost their job and paid PRSI for the previous five years will receive 60% of their gross earnings. But this will be in the form of social welfare payments. Those who have paid PRSI with two to five years of employment are also covered. They receive 50% of their final earnings, up to a maximum of €300 per week.
Under this plan, higher rates are paid for only six months before reducing to the standard jobseeker payment rate. To be considered eligible for Jobseeker's Allowance, you must be aged 18 or over or under 66. You must be fully unemployed or work 3 days a week or less. You must be available for full-time work and actively looking for work. People must be able to work, pass a means test and maintain a permanent residency status.
The rate of Jobseeker's Allowance depends on your age. Those aged 25 or 18-24 and living independently receive a maximum payment of €208. An increase of €138 is available for adult dependents and other increases are available for dependent children.
