Sriram Krishnan Appointed as Senior Policy Advisor for AI at the White House

Indian-American tech leader Sriram Krishnan has been named Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy by former President Donald Trump. Krishnan, a seasoned entrepreneur, investor, and technologist, brings a wealth of experience from leadership roles at major tech firms such as Microsoft, Facebook, and Twitter. His appointment aligns with Trump’s vision to “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies.”

In his new role, Krishnan will be pivotal in shaping AI policy across government sectors, working closely with David O. Sacks, recently designated as the AI and cryptocurrency "czar." This move reflects Trump’s broader strategy of recruiting private-sector experts, business leaders, and political outsiders for key positions to drive innovation and efficiency in federal governance.

Krishnan’s impressive journey began at Microsoft, where he was a founding member of the Windows Azure team, contributing to the development of the company’s cloud computing platform. His career evolved through leading roles at Snapchat, Yahoo!, Twitter (now X), and Facebook, demonstrating a consistent track record of steering technological innovation.

In 2021, Krishnan joined the prestigious venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner, focusing on emerging technologies. He later spearheaded the firm's first international office in London. As an investor, his portfolio includes prominent firms like SpaceX, Figma, and Scale.ai.

An alumnus of SRM Valliammai Engineering College at Anna University, Tamil Nadu, Krishnan holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Information Technology. Beyond his professional endeavors, he co-hosts The Aarthi and Sriram Show podcast with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, featuring insights from industry leaders like Elon Musk on technology and entrepreneurship.

Krishnan has also contributed to discussions on AI and social media through platforms like The New York Times, where he penned a 2023 editorial forecasting the rise of decentralized platforms such as Farcaster, Bluesky, and Mastodon.

Strengthening America’s Leadership in AI

As Senior Policy Advisor for AI, Krishnan will play a crucial role in ensuring coordination of AI policy across federal agencies. His efforts aim to reinforce America's global leadership in the AI sector, a vital area of focus for the nation’s technological and economic future.

This appointment highlights Trump’s commitment to integrating private-sector expertise into public governance, ensuring policies that reflect innovation and adaptability in the face of evolving global challenges.
