Direct flight services will be launched from various countries including Canada, the US, India, and the UAE: Tourism Minister Peter Burke

Dublin: A major government plan is being implemented to attract more foreign tourists by extending the tourist season.

Tourism Minister Peter Burke has announced plans for a €77 million project to boost tourism in areas that have been neglected for years. Irish Tourism

As part of this, the minister stated that direct flight services will be launched from various countries including Canada, the US, India, and the UAE.

Direct flights are already available from Canada, the US, and the UAE. India is the only new addition to the list. The ministry has indicated that direct flights will begin this year itself.

The minister unveiled a €4.7 billion capital investment strategy for the next five years. The plan is part of the government's National Development Plan. It includes €1.1 billion to support local enterprises, €400 million for the tourism industry and €100 million for development sites for computer chips and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The new plan also includes additional funding to promote Irish tourism in India.

A new initiative called Start Up Ireland will be established to help Irish tourism companies that want to become global brands. It will provide €300 million to help companies decarbonise and €190 million to accelerate AI technology.

Last year, there was concern about the decline in employment in the hospitality sector. The target for this year is 6% growth in the tourism industry. Burke said the government wants the tourist season to last from St. Brigid's Day to Halloween.
