LeT Co-Founder Amir Hamza Shot in Lahore, Reportedly Critical

Amir Hamza, a founding member of the Pakistan-based militant organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was reportedly shot at by unidentified assailants in Lahore and is said to be in critical condition, according to media reports.

The incident is believed to have occurred outside a news channel office in Lahore, where gunmen opened fire on Hamza before fleeing the scene. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Profile of Amir Hamza

Amir Hamza is regarded as one of the early architects of Lashkar-e-Taiba, having co-founded the group alongside Hafiz Saeed in the mid-1980s. Over the years, he has been associated with multiple terror-linked activities, including operations targeting India.

A veteran of the Afghan jihad, Hamza has also been known within the organisation for his ideological contributions, including speeches and writings. He previously served as the founding editor of LeT’s publication Majallah al-Daawa and authored the book Qafila Da’wat aur Shahadat in 2002.

Lashkar-e-Taiba has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the United States, which has also placed Amir Hamza under its sanctions regime. He is believed to have held a senior position within the group’s leadership, with responsibilities spanning recruitment, fundraising, and coordination related to detained operatives.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity or motive of the attackers, and further details are awaited as investigations continue.
