Mbappe scored through a penalty in the 80th minute and a good move in the 81st minute. France went ahead a minute later with Mbappe's flying finish. With this, the match went to extra time at 2-2. At the end of the second half, Argentina and France scored two goals each.

Lautaro Martinez squandered a golden opportunity. But in the 109th minute, after a brilliant save by Lloris, Messi found his second goal and Argentina took the lead 3-2. But in the 116th minute, Mbappe brought France back into the game with a penalty. With this, Mbappe completed a hat-trick. With this, the match went to a shootout at 3-3.
