France: In 2020 and 2021, sexually transmitted diseases increased by 30 percent in France. French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that from next year, condoms will be available free of charge in pharmacies for those under 25. So 18- to 25-year-olds can now get free condoms in France to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. The move is aimed at combating the rise in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among the youth as high inflation squeezes household budgets.
The aim is to reduce sexually transmitted diseases and make contraception more accessible. From 2018, the government started refunding the amount spent on condoms purchased with a doctor's prescription to individuals. Contraceptives were made free for women up to the age of 26 from the beginning of this year.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the health care of young people is the target. Free condoms are available from pharmacies. Tests for diseases other than HIV can also be done without a doctor's prescription. People below 26 years of age can be tested like this. He added that the move is to bring a small revolution to the method of contraception.
