Dublin: INMO is calling for mandatory mask-wearing to be brought back in busy settings amid record trolley numbers in hospitals in Ireland. More than 931 patients are without beds in Irish hospitals today. The highest number since 2006.
In a statement issued by UHL, Mercy and Mater Hospitals last night, a spokesperson for University Limerick Hospitals Group, ULHG, confirmed that "the HSE has activated operational plans with the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to divert some patients from UHL to other hospitals. The group requested that the arrangements be activated," the spokesperson said.
When these procedures are applicable, less critical patients are transferred to the nearest alternative appropriate hospital. The most critically ill patients, such as those with suspected heart attacks and strokes, and those who are medically unstable remain at UHL during this time. The 6 hospitals in ULHG are University Hospital Limerick; University Maternity Hospital Limerick; Nenagh Hospital; Ennis Hospital; Croom Orthopedic Hospital and St John's Hospital.
