IRELAND: Western brand products recalled at Aldi, Lidl, Dunnes stores and Tesco.-FSAI

Dublin: Western brand products are sold in Aldi, Lidl, Dunnes stores and Tesco. Other products were sold under BWG's Glenmore brand, which has now been recalled. It is advised not to consume batches involving customers.

The recall is linked to an investigation by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine into salmonella infections in several broiler flocks. To date, there have been no confirmed cases of human illness associated with this investigation.

FSAI Chief Executive Dr Pamela Byrne said: "As a reminder to consumers, raw chicken should always be handled hygienically to prevent cross-contamination and raw chicken should never be washed. Always wash your hands after handling it and always wash any utensils you used to prepare it. raw chicken Chicken should always be thoroughly cooked before eating it".

Affected products include chicken fillets, mini fillets and small chickens, and the BEFORE warnings are shown from February 5 to 7. Retailers have been asked to remove the affected batches from sale and display point-of-sale recall notices at stores where the affected batches were sold.

This is the second time in as many weeks that Western Brand has recalled a product due to the risk of salmonella contamination. This follows the confirmation of salmonella in eight poultry farms late last week. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has advised today. The FSAI is warning consumers not to eat infected chicken products at home.
